Anointing is an act of faith and worship — it always begins with prayer. Here are example prayers to use with your anointing oil, and a salvation prayer if you are ready to invite God into your life.

Prayer to Anoint Someone Who Is Sick

The book of James teaches us to pray for the sick: “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” (James 5:14)

Lord Jesus, you chose to share our human nature, to redeem all people by the shed blood on the cross, and to heal the sick. Look upon (name) whom we anoint in your name with this holy oil for the healing of his/her body and spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amein.

Prayer for Anointing an Object

Use this prayer when dedicating a home, a room, or a belonging to God — setting it apart for His holy use.

Father God, we anoint this (item) dedicating it for your holy use. As I apply this holy oil, I pray this (item) brings honor to your name. We consecrate and set it apart as an instrument of your peace. We ask you God to guard it, bless it, and protect it. Let it serve as a tangible reminder of your presence and protection. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amein.

Salvation Prayer

If you haven’t prayed and invited God into your life and the Holy Spirit, please do not delay. Let’s do this together — pray these words out loud, and mean them with your whole heart.

Father God, I love you. Jesus, I believe in you. I am sorry for the way I lived. I am a sinner and I ask you to make me brand new. Forgive me. I receive you, Jesus, as my Savior and my Lord. Take me and make me what you designed me to be. Holy Spirit, I invite you into my life. Speak to me and guide me. I believe Jesus died for me so I could be forgiven and rose again to give me life. I receive this new life. I am a child of God. Amein.
